Description
Japanese roasted green tea
Hojicha is a distinctive Japanese green tea created through a special roasting process. The tea leaves and stems are gently heated, giving the infusion its characteristic amber colour and warm, toasty aroma. The flavour is smooth and balanced, with light roasted notes, a natural sweetness and subtle hints of cocoa and caramel.
Origin and production Hojicha
This Hojicha comes from Kagoshima in southern Japan, a region known for its rich tea culture and high-quality production. It is made from the Yabukita cultivar, one of Japan’s most popular tea varieties. Unlike most green teas, Hojicha is not steamed but carefully roasted. The word “Houji” means “roasted” and “cha” means “tea”. This process creates a mild, harmonious profile with naturally low caffeine content, making it ideal for evening enjoyment.
Ingredients: green tea (roasted leaves and stems) from Japan, cultivar Yabukita.
Preparation Hojicha
Use about 15 g per litre of water. Heat the water to around 75 °C and steep for about 1 minute. The tea can be infused multiple times, with the flavours of malt, roasted notes and caramel evolving with each infusion.
