Description
Genmaicha Tea – Japanese green tea with roasted rice
Genmaicha Tea is a Japanese tea blend made from green tea and roasted rice. The tea tastes mild, nutty and lightly roasted. This makes it clearly different from classic green teas, which often taste fresher and grassier.
For this Japan Genmaicha, green tea is combined with roasted puffed rice. Some rice grains may pop during roasting, which is why Genmaicha is also known as popcorn tea. The roasted rice brings a warm, lightly nutty note to the cup and softens the green tea base.
Taste of Genmaicha Tea
The taste of Genmaicha Tea is mild, balanced and pleasantly roasted. The green tea provides a clear tea base, while the roasted rice adds a warm, nutty direction. This creates a tea with a fine balance between green tea freshness and roasted aroma.

Japan Genmaicha with roasted rice
Japan Genmaicha is a good choice if you enjoy green tea but prefer a softer and nuttier variation. The roasted rice makes the tea rounder and softens some of the grassy direction of the green tea base.
Compared with Sencha, Genmaicha tastes milder and warmer. At the same time, the tea remains clear and light. This makes it interesting for anyone who would like to discover Japanese green tea with a special roasted aroma.
Preparation of Genmaicha Tea
For preparation, use about twelve to fifteen grams of tea per litre of water. Pour hot water at around 80 to 90°C over the Genmaicha Tea and let it steep for one to two minutes. This keeps the infusion clear and allows the nutty rice notes to come through well.
If you prefer a stronger cup, you can use a little more tea. A much longer steeping time can make green tea taste more tart, so a short and precise steeping time is recommended.
Ingredients
Green tea and roasted puffed rice.

If you enjoy Japanese teas with a roasted character, our Hojicha is also worth discovering. It is shaped by roasted notes as well, but does not contain rice.
For a fresher green tea direction, our Japan Sencha Green Tea is interesting. It shows a clearer, greener note and differs clearly from the nutty character of Genmaicha.
Storage
To preserve scent and taste, store Genmaicha Tea in a dry, cool and well-sealed place. Avoid direct sunlight, moisture and strong surrounding odours because green tea and roasted rice can easily absorb smells. This keeps the tea mild, nutty and aromatic in taste.
