Description
Pekoe tea – classic black tea from Gorreana
Gorreana Pekoe is a classic black tea from the Azores, appreciated for its balanced and smooth character. While Orange Pekoe represents a finer leaf grade, Pekoe stands out with its uncomplicated nature and is perfect as an everyday tea.
Origin & uniqueness
On the Gorreana plantation on São Miguel, this Pekoe black tea is made exclusively from the second leaf of the bud. Harvest takes place from mid-April to June, after the Orange Pekoe, when the leaves are more mature yet still young. The result is a tea with a rich, full-bodied flavour and a deep copper-coloured cup – ideal for the morning or for those who enjoy their tea with a splash of milk.
Taste & character
In the cup, Pekoe shows a warm copper tone. Its flavour is aromatic and rounded, with a light malty note and a subtle sweetness. It is less delicate than Orange Pekoe but more robust and full-bodied. This makes it suitable both for pure enjoyment and for a cup with milk or sugar – depending on your preference.
Preparation recommendation
-
1 teaspoon per cup
-
Water temperature: 90–95 °C
-
Steeping time: 3–4 minutes
This allows the tea to develop its characteristic flavour without becoming too strong.
Classic everyday tea – Pekoe – Gorreana Azores black tea
Pekoe is a black tea you can enjoy every day – uncomplicated, balanced and reliable in taste. If you prefer a stronger cup, try the Broken Leaf, which offers a more intense flavour.
My impression on site
I (Romina) visited the Gorreana plantation myself and experienced the tradition and craftsmanship behind each tea. This is exactly what I want to share with you – even in a simple cup of Pekoe.
