Description

Ceylon tea – classic black tea from Sri Lanka

Ceylon tea is one of the best-known black teas in the world. It comes from Sri Lanka, which was formerly known as Ceylon, and still stands for a clear, aromatic black tea character. Its taste is bold, balanced and slightly brisk, while remaining pleasantly easy to drink.

This black tea is a good choice for anyone looking for a classic everyday cup. You can enjoy it pure, add a little milk or sweeten it lightly. If you prefer a gentle sweetness, a brown rock candy stick is a simple and elegant addition.

Ceylon tea with classic black tea taste

The infusion has a clear colour and a typical black tea aroma. Depending on the steeping time, the cup becomes softer or more intense. Therefore, it is worth adjusting the preparation to your own taste. A shorter steeping time keeps the tea milder, while a slightly longer infusion brings out more strength.

Black tea from Sri Lanka with a long tea tradition

Tea culture in Sri Lanka has a long history. In the 19th century, tea cultivation developed on the island after coffee had previously been the main crop. Over time, Ceylon became a well-known name in the international tea world.

Today, black tea from Sri Lanka is associated with different growing areas, altitudes and leaf grades. These factors influence aroma, colour and intensity. A bright to deep amber cup with a clear and lively profile is typical for this style of tea.

Use and enjoyment

This tea suits many drinking habits. Enjoyed pure, it shows its classic character most directly. With milk, the cup becomes rounder and softer. If you prefer a light sweetness, you can add rock candy or another sweetener of your choice.

Ceylon black tea can also be enjoyed cold. First, prepare it hot and then let it cool. Afterwards, you can serve it with ice cubes, lemon slices or fruit. This creates a simple iced tea version with a bold tea base.

Preparation of Ceylon tea

For an aromatic cup, pour boiling water over the tea leaves and let them steep briefly. Whole leaves may steep a little longer. If the leaves are broken or crushed beforehand, a shorter steeping time is usually enough because the aroma is released more quickly.

For a milder taste, choose a shorter steeping time. If you prefer a stronger cup, let the tea steep slightly longer. Afterwards, strain the leaves so the taste stays clear and balanced.

If you enjoy classic black teas, TeaSense offers further varieties with different taste profiles. An aromatic alternative is our Earl Grey Blue Royal with a fine bergamot note.

Storage

To preserve the aroma, store the tea in a dry, cool and well-sealed place. Avoid direct sunlight, moisture and strong surrounding odours because tea leaves can easily absorb smells. This keeps the black tea aromatic and clear in taste.
