What does Broken mean?

The term Broken refers to tea leaves that are broken into smaller pieces during processing. Because the pieces are smaller than whole leaves, they often release their flavour more quickly.

The final character still depends on the origin and variety. Assam Broken can taste particularly malty and full-bodied. Darjeeling Broken, by contrast, may be more aromatic and lively.

How to prepare Broken Tea

For many varieties, we recommend water at around 90–95 °C and a steeping time of 3–5 minutes. However, origin and leaf grade can affect the preparation. Therefore, always check the instructions on the product page.

For a milder cup, shorten the steeping time slightly. For a stronger flavour, use a little more tea or let it steep for longer.
