Description
Green Yerba Mate Tea – fresh, herbal-tart mate
Green Yerba Mate Tea is made from the leaves of the mate plant. The infusion has a greenish-yellow cup colour and a fresh, herbal-tart taste with a slightly grassy note. It is a good choice if you enjoy a loose tea with a distinctive character.
Yerba Mate Tea has a long tradition in South America and is often prepared in a calabash and drunk through a bombilla. You can also prepare green mate simply like loose tea – in a teapot, tea infuser or directly in a cup.
Green Yerba Mate Tea taste
Green mate tastes herbal-tart, fresh, slightly grassy and gently spicy. Depending on steeping time and dosage, the infusion can be milder or more intense. Lemon, mint or fresh herbs pair especially well with Green Yerba Mate Tea.
How to prepare Green Yerba Mate Tea
For one cup of mate tea, use about 1–2 teaspoons of mate per 200 ml of water. Pour hot, but not boiling, water at around 80 °C over the tea and let it steep for 3–5 minutes. This creates an aromatic infusion with a fresh, herbal-tart taste.
Traditionally, mate is prepared in a calabash and drunk with a bombilla. The mate leaves are placed directly in the vessel and infused several times with hot water.
Green Yerba Mate Tea hot or cold
Green mate tastes good hot, but it also works well as a cold tea. For a cold version, prepare the mate a little stronger, let it cool and serve it with ice cubes. A splash of lemon or some fresh mint adds a refreshing note.
Green mate and roasted mate
If you like the fresh, herbal-tart taste of green mate, our roasted mate tea is also worth trying. Roasted mate tastes darker, more roasted and fuller-bodied. Both varieties can be enjoyed pure or combined with each other.
Accessories for Yerba Mate Tea
For traditional mate preparation, you can use a calabash and bombilla. This lets you prepare Yerba Mate Tea in the classic way and drink it directly from the vessel. Alternatively, preparation also works easily with a tea infuser or teapot.
