Pu-Erh

Fermented tea with a deep character

Pu-Erh Tea traditionally comes from Yunnan in China. Depending on the variety, processing and ageing, the flavour can be mild, strong, earthy, smooth or slightly spicy.

These teas develop their character through fermentation, storage and maturation. As a result, each variety has its own profile: sometimes softer, sometimes darker and sometimes more intense.

Pu-Erh from Yunnan

Yunnan is the region traditionally associated with this style of tea. Fermentation and maturation strongly influence the flavour and can create smooth, round, earthy or more intense cups.

Depending on the variety, the tea may be sold loose or pressed into different shapes. Its character can also change with storage time and processing method.

Sheng and Shou

Pu-Erh is often divided into Sheng and Shou. Sheng ages more slowly and may taste fresher, livelier or more complex depending on its maturity.

Shou goes through accelerated fermentation. It often has a darker, rounder and more earthy profile.

How to prepare Pu-Erh Tea

For many varieties, we recommend hot water and a steeping time of a few minutes. Depending on the tea, several short infusions may also be possible. The flavour can change slightly from cup to cup.

Please follow the preparation instructions on the product page. You can then adjust the amount of tea and the steeping time to suit your taste.
